LuckyBag 2017 + Announcement

It's been a crazy few weeks, but I'm here with my latest (and possibly last for a while) beauty splurge: The Beautylish Lucky Bag 2017. Before I get started on the contents of the bag, I want to announce something. If you haven't seen my Instagram, you may have missed the news.

I'm pregnant! And engaged!

So yeah, my mind's been running around like crazy thinking of different things I need to research or learn, or just ideas in general. I'm due May 23 and no wedding date has been set. Let me know if you'd like to see a general post about either of these two topics. In the meantime, back to the Lucky Bag!

If you're not familiar with the Lucky Bag, it's a Japanese tradition called Fukubukuro. Essentially merchants would create these surprise bags from merchandise (either unwanted or excess stock - superstition says you shouldn't start the new year with unwanted trash from the previous year) and sell them at discounted prices.

Beautylish has taken this tradition and created beauty oriented Lucky Bags. They are $75 USD each (plus shipping) and this year they also had the XL version for US customers only (don't remember the price of that one). They guarantee that you'll receive at least $150 worth, thus doubling what you spent.

It ships from California, and took nearly two weeks to get here. I was impatient and peaked on instagram where I immediately picked bags that I loved, and bags that I hoped to avoid!

My bag was right in between.

It Cosmetics Confidence in a Cream ($48)
I already have so many moisturizers (and one that I'm in love with and don't want to replace) that I don't really need another. It does have quite the reviews, so I may have to give it a try.

Z Palette, small ($14)
I was a little disappointed with receiving this as I no longer de-pot my products, still have a regular size one that's empty and I prefer my Yaby ones. However, I realized that this would actually come in quite handy for those previously de-potted items when traveling.

Wayne Goss #08 Brush ($17)
Probably the most disappointing item in my Lucky Bag was this Wayne Goss brush.I don't tend to use this style of brush. The only thing I can really see this brush working for is the lower lashline, which I don't usually apply colour to (I suppose the upper lashline as well, but I prefer an angled brush), so I'm not sure if I'd use this brush.

Make-Up Atelier Paris 5 Eye Shadows Palette in T15 Honey Brown ($35)
This was a pleasant item! These colours are right up my alley and I can't wait to try them. I like that it's a clear window so you can see what you're grabbing without opening it up. It's received some overall great reviews, and a quick swatch tells me they are well pigmented. I'll review in more details after testing.

Natasha Denona Blush Duo in 14 - Golden Coral ($38)
While there's quite a bit of hype around Natasha Denona products, I was a little disappointed to receive a blush duo. The colours are beautiful, just not something I tend to wear. I was lucky enough to find someone willing to trade me (I'm getting the Becca Afterglow palette in exchange!)

Becca Backlight Priming Filter ($38)
I'm quite excited about receiving this! I got a deluxe sample the other month and loved it, so now I get to hold onto that one for traveling and get to use this one at home! This is another item that I plan on reviewing in the future!

So the total value is $190 USD, or approx $252 CAD (I paid $138CAD). Nearly doubled the money I put in, so the value is there for sure. Pretty much all of the products will be used (the brush, I'm still not sure about), so I'm overall quite content with this splurge!

Did you buy a Beautylish Lucky Bag? What were your feelings about it?
