There are so many new and exciting products that have been coming out recently, but there is one item that is a standout that I must share with you:
essence Make Me Brow
I've been waiting for this to come to Canada since early 2015. Back in December 2014, I got to try the Benefit Gimme Brow and loved it, but hated the price tag. Then while browsing online, I stumbled upon the essence Make Me Brow and I immediately had high hopes, but it wasn't available in Canada. That is of course, until now.
Make Me Brow is a 3-in-1 tinted brow gel. It colours, fills and shapes your brows using fibers that give your brows a natural, fuller look. It comes in a small tube, with a small spooly wand. Available in 2 colours, it retails for approx. $3.99 (for 0.12fl. oz) and can be found at most (if not all) Shoppers Drug Mart, Pharmaprix and soon to be at Loblaws. (Just a reminder, Benefit's Gimme Brow is sold at Sephora for $23 and only 0.1fl oz of product).
While I haven't tested the lighter colours of the two brands, I have tested the darker, and I must say they are almost identical in colour (see below for colour).
Benefit's spooly is slightly tapered at the end, but ever so slightly and does feel a little better to apply. The formula for essence Make Me Brow feels a tad wetter, but that might be the fact that I ran out of Gimme Brow nearly a year ago and just hung onto the tube. Needless to say, it's quite dry now.

Both contain little fibers that help fill your brows. You can see in the picture of the swatches above that the Make Me Brow seems to have MUCH more fibers.
A question I've heard people ask is if you can use the wand from Benefit with essence. While yes, you can dip it in, the thread on the tube is slightly different and you would not be able to close it. As shown below, this is the furthest you can close the Gimme Brow wand on the make me brow tube.
You can see below that both products deliver nicely. I like using these on days where I have to run out of the house and don't have time to use my dipbrow. So while my brows' don't need a whole lot, it does clean them up nicely.
Overall, essence Make Me Brow does the exact same as Benefit's Gimme Brow, but at a much lower price point. I'd call it dupe.

You can see what else is new to Canada from essence in my previous post.
I've never tried Gimme Brow, but looks like I'll have to try Make Me Brow! :-)
ReplyDeleteFor sure! The savings is huge!
DeleteOh heyyy that's great to know! I do prefer the brush on the Benefit one... but I don't prefer it $20 more!!!
ReplyDeleteIf you already have the Benefit one, you can just keep the brush, dip it in whenever you use it, and maybe store it in a ziplock bag (as opposed to cleaning it off every time and possibly wasting product)
DeleteYay for dupes! I have the essence one, but I'm not loving it. I think I just prefer a different brow method.
ReplyDeleteI love my ABH Dipbrow, but I don't always have time to use it. So this is great for those quick days or to just have in the purse :)
DeleteI'm not a benefit fan so I"m glad you reviewed this alternative. Hard Candy has a fiber brow product as well that has a highlighter on the end. I actually love that when I am short on time. Most of the time I default to my MAC Impeccable Brow pencil in taupe (do they even make that anymore?)
ReplyDeleteIt's awesome that they have a highlighter on the other end. Makes it great to carry in your purse
DeleteOoh!! Okay I definitely need to try this out! I love testing new brow products!
ReplyDeleteLet me know what you think!
DeleteI have made the switch to the Essence one too now my Gimme Brow is nearly out. I do have a slight preference for Benefit's but given the price difference, Essence wins!
ReplyDeleteI think my only preference with Benefit's is the brush. But that brush is NOT worth the extra $20! lol
DeleteWow great find! $23 for that little package?! Essence has come out with some stellar stuff, I really like their blush.

essence truly is amazing! I wish we had as much items as they do in the UK!
DeleteI too am now using the Make Me Brow instead of the Gimme Brow. $23 is just not what I want to spend on a brow gel.Go essence!
ReplyDeleteSeriously! I don't even want to think of how much money Benefit's making off of that one product alone!
DeleteI do love Gimme Brow and was really curious about the essence one - I will be trying it now!
ReplyDeleteI think I prefer the Essence Make Me Brow on you! (I'm so jealous of your natural brows!)
ReplyDeleteGreat comparison! I agree that Essence's dupe is pretty much exactly like Benefit's so there isnt much point in spending all that money when you can get it for cheap!
ReplyDeleteI'm so happy to see that these products are pretty much dupes! I think we chatted about the Essence products before in the CBB, so I'm happy to see you make a final post on the product. My brow routine consists of all Essence products and I'm really impressed with how they've looked lately!

I picked this up exactly because I thought it was a dupe! It's perfect for travelling and I was out of the Gimme Brown but didn't want to spend $20+ on it! I love mine so far - I hope they keep bringing out these dupes!!

Ouuhhh I'll have to find this! I really like Gimme Brow but find it's ridiculously priced. Thanks for such an in-depth review!
ReplyDeleteYes!! I LOVE Essence makeup, and Make Me Brow is absolutely my favourite brow tamer. Great review, cheers!
ReplyDeleteI've seen this and was really curious about it being a dupe so I must go pick it up now! I love Essence!

I'm impressed with the Make Me Brow as well! Great drugstore brow gel. I was never a fan of the Benefit one actually.
ReplyDeleteSo glad that it is a dupe! I think I prefer the benefit brush-- but I don't prefer it $25 more haha
ReplyDeleteI've never tried these products but I love essence
