14 of 365 - Virgin on Satin Sheets

After not really doing my makeup all weekend, I didn't know what to do today. Was I feeling colourful? Not really. So I decided to go with this look. Simple yet elegant, it'd be a nice bridal look. I also wasn't feeling very photogenic today. I blame the hair. (just because)

13 of 365 - Night Skies

It was a fluke that today's look reminds me of a clear night's sky. It started with once again making a colour. I wanted blue. I don't usually do blue. You can't see it in the pictures, but it's a med/dark blue with a nice shimmer to it. I think I enjoyed it.

- Too Faced Glitter Glue
- Sweet Dangerous Beautiful - Blue unknown?
- Kat Von D Momento Mori Palette - Hard Luck
- Smashbox Jet Set liner - Midnight black
- Tarte Lights, Camera, lashes

G'night!

12 of 365 - Heated Lash Curler

As I mentioned earlier, I have an issue with pinching when I use a regular lash curler. My lashes are not particularly straight, but they can use a little lift & curl and it seems like a regular curler doesn't quite cut it. So I decided to try Sephora's Heated Lash Curler.

This is to be used after mascara. Which really just makes sense as it kinda melts (softens) your mascara and once it dries, it'll harden to the shape you're attempting to achieve. I like keeping it a little longer at the tip of my lashes and gently pushing them back/up to help make the curl (like stated on the packaging).

you can see where it heats up and that it's somewhat
safe (unless you poke your eye with it)

Using my iTouch timer, it takes about 2 minutes for it to get to max heat (which does not feel very hot, however you can feel the heat as you're bringing it through/over your lashes). Unfortunately, there is no indicator to let you know when you've reached max heat. I figure it's probably best to turn it on while applying your mascara so that it'll be ready for you when you're done your mascara.

Here are some before & after pictures of both my left and right eye. I used Tarte's mascara in Lights, Camera, Lashes! (click for larger pictures)

11 of 365 - Mini Sephora Haul

I still had some Sephora gift cards from Christmas and I've been patiently waiting for Kat Von D's Mi Vida Loca palette. Still not in my store yet :(  There were a few other things that I've been eyeing recently though and I finally caved in.

1 - Smashbox Jet Set Waterproof Eye Liner in Bronze
I have this in Midnight Black and I absolutly love it! It's not really a cream, but thicker than a gel. Definetly waterproof, but not quite 100% non-transferable - which is one of my biggest problems with liners. But it lasts much longer than most, so it's my go-to right now! I like to apply mine with an angle liner brush.

Colours: Bronze, Dark Brown, Midnight Black, Midnight Purple, Navy Blue and Teal.

2 - Sephora Heated Lash Curler
I have an issue with pinching when I use a regular lash curler. My lashes are note particularly straight, but they can use a little lift & curl and it seems like a regular curler doesn't quite cut it. I'll post a review on it at a later time.

3 - Anastasia Beverly Hills Brow Stencils
Not going to lie; I hate my brows. They're long, thick and all over the place. I have to get them waxed almost every 3 weeks. I see pictures online of people's EOTD's, and they always have perfectly manicured brows. I've noticed it's because they're filled in. So I bought these babies to help and try to keep a nice & pretty shape. I couldn't find any other brand that had just the stencils, so I grabbed them thinking they were $20. Nope, they're $26 for 5.

When I got to work, I went through a colleague's Avon book. They have a set of 4 on sale  for $4.99 (ref $7.99). Unfortunately, I'm going to be returning the Anastasia set. It's a little too $$$ for what it is(even if they were $20). If you have access to an Avon rep, it's much cheaper that way!

4 - Sephora Instant Refreshing Toner
I'm running low on this. Simply needed to stock back up. Love the refreshing feeling it leaves. While I usually remove makeup, washup then apply toner, it's good for those days where you just don't have time to do it all - just use toner and it'll remove the makeup (without that oily/greasy feeling) and leave you refreshed at the same time!

Have you treated yourself to anything lately?

9 of 365 - Sunrise Eyes

It was a gorgeous day today! It's been like this for the past week or so. I have a feeling we're going to get hit bad once winter decides to show it's true colours.

I felt like using yellow & red and with the bright  light coming through the window, I ended up thinking of the beautiful morning sunrises. So that was today's inspiration!

8 of 365 - Pinkish SDB Creation

Decided that I wanted to make a shadow to wear today and wanted something with a red tone to it. I got some new ingredients and started making a shadow. In the middle of it, I decided to double check one of the ingredients for eye sefety and go figures. It wasn't eye safe. It's a gorgeous red. Guess I'll be making blushes and lip colours in the future ^.^ Oh by the way, SDB is short for Sweet Dangerous Beautiful.

This ended up being today's creation. Had a hard time trying to photograph it. It actually does appear much more like the first picture shown. It's got a deep pink/red base with  some light violet sparkle to it. It doesn't feel gritty like glitter. The first eye picture was in the morning before work. The second was after work around 9pm. Please excuse anything that is not flattering, but it showed the colour a little better.

- UDPP
- Too Faced Glitter Glue (just to be safe)

We'll see what tomorrow brings!

7 of 365

I've been wanting a curling rod/wand for a while now, however had a hard time locating one. I've checked the Sephora store, Shoppers Drugmart and even Walmart. I finally found a few models at a Beauty Supply store.

I purchased the GO by FHI Heat Curling Rod.

- Heats up to 410F (210C)
- 1 inch barrel (25mm)
- Swivel cord for easier use
- Dual voltage ( 110V/240V)
- Comes with heat protectant glove

Price: $69.99 + tx

It's got a decent barrel length, which is great for my long hair.

So far, I'm liking it. This is my first attempt with it and it took me about 1 hour. It's weird trying to separate your hair with a gloved hand, but I got used to it.

I dried my hair last night with my blow dryer. Did not use any products, did not try to blow dry it straight either. Just finger combed my hair and let it do it's own thing. I separated my hair into sections (bottom, middle, top) and did them one section at a time. Before I did each section, I did a very light spray of hair spray. I would then take my individual chunks of hair and wrapped it around the barrel, holding it for about 15 seconds. Once a full section was done (bottom) I'd lightly spray it with hair spray and clip it together at the root to try to keep it out of the way of my next section. Repeat until it's all done. Once it was all done, I did one last light coat of hair spray (honestly, only light coats - my hair doesn't feel like hair spray was used!)

I forgot to take a picture right away as I was in a rush to get ready for work (and pick up my friend/colleague!) so here's picture of my hair now (approx 10 hours later)

Good night everyone!

6 of 365 - Rushing Neutrals

Since it took me almost 1 hour to do my hair today (a little more than I anticipated), I needed to do makeup and hurry out the door as quick as possible. I decided to keep it simple and go for a natural pin-up inspired look. Everything took me about 20 minutes (including trying to find my lip stuff!)

5 of 365 - It's false!

Some may have noticed that yesterday's look included false lashes. It's not a regular thing for me, but something I like to have fun with. Even if you have a full set of natural lashes, it's nice to amp it up with a lil' oomph!

These are "Are those real?" by Velour Lashes. A Canadian company that has created some wonderful luxurious lashes from real mink fur (don't worry, the method is cruelty free!)

Upper lashes are normally $59.99, however they have their grand opening sale on which makes them $29.99 (did I mention free shipping?) I bought mine at IMATS in Toronto for only $20. Still think I'm crazy for paying that price?  With proper care, you can wear them up to 25 times! That's less than $1 each wear! You can't get that out of drug store brands.

However, if you're not used to wearing falsies, I would suggest trying to get the hang of the less expensive ones first. You can try with half lashes first, then progress to a full lash. Quo has a decent selection. I was not a fan of the Quo glue at all though! I highly suggest using Duo.

Here's a few things to remember about falsies:

  • They're not "one size fits all". Most are made a little longer. Simply bring the lash to your eye, see what's a good length for you is, and trim the excess. (trim at the outer edge & at the band to make sure you don't cut the lashes!)
  • If you've got little to no lashes, the very thick, dramatic lashes probably wont last long on your eyes. Why? Because they don't have much natural lashes to rest on.
  • This may be a no-brainer to some, but apply your liner before the lashes. You can touch up afterwards.
  • Curl your natural lashes first. This will make your natural lashes blend in with the false lashes a bit better. You can also choose to apply mascara at this time if you don't want to get mascara on your falsies (like on the Velour lashes).
  • After the glue has fully dried, you can gently curl your natural & false lashes a second time to get them to blend even more (be very careful to not pull. Often best with a heated lash curler)

I hope this helps at least one person out there! If you have any tips or tricks, feel free to leave a comment about it!

Good night!

2 of 365 - Pink & Brown

So the look didn't turn out quite how I wanted it to, however I'm not gonna show you only the best that I do - I'm like the rest of you out there- Not 100% Perfect. So while it's not how I wanted it to turn out, it was still ok.

Had a hard time this morning with my camera, so I apologize now if the pics are not the greatest.

(it also appears as though my picture's are not coming through as cropped... odd)

Until tomorrow!

New Years Resolution & Makeup Stash

Happy New Year everyone!

So my New Year's resolution was one that I thought would actually be achievable: Do 1 blog post per day for 365 days. That's one full year of blogging. Let's admit, I've been slacking.

Wondering if I have plans on what these blogs will be? You'll have to follow to find out, but expect EOTD (eye of the day for those that don't know) and maybe I'll try to squeeze in a review or two...

So, we're January 3 - what happened to Jan 1 and 2? Well, I was in Quebec for the New Year and forgot my camera, so I wasn't able to take pictures or post. So, over the next few days I'll be posting additional posts to try to make up /catch up for those two days.

Post 1 of 365

I own lots of makeup. Add up the dollar amount, and it's probably close to $1,000 (if not maybe more?). So what's it look like you ask? Well, here are some pictures of my stash. Missing my lip products and didn't empty my makeup case. That may be for another day...

                                                                 full makeup case

                                                              my wonderful brushes

88 colour palette - too big for case

Tarte for True Blood doesn't fit in case

Urban Decay palette - no room in case!

Urban Decay Naked palette - not in case

6 Kat Von D paletts - those are in my case :)
