June Starlooks Anniversary Box

I love getting beauty boxes in the mail. Anxiously awaiting for the date to arrive and not knowing exactly what is in the package, it's like Christmas.

Starlooks has a monthly subscription box called Starbox. This features a few products from their own makeup line. The box costs $22 US ($23 and some change Canadian).

When I found out that June was Starlooks' anniversary month, I decided that it was a good time to give it a whirl. The fact that they also have a birthday box for those who celebrate their birthday during the month (any month that you're subscribed for) was pretty cool too. I figured it would be a special birthday present to myself.

If you're Canadian, you have to either email them or call them to set up the subscription. As I didn't know what information they required and there is no way I'm emailing any kind of credit card information (once again, I don't know if they ask for the credit card via email), I decided to call them. I spoke with a gentleman named Branden (or was it Braden?) who was very nice and helpful. First contact with them showed that they have good customer service.

I never received a shipping notification which made me worry, so I posted on their Facebook page about that and they replied shortly after asking me to email them. Once again, shows that they have great customer service.

When I got home (before seeing their reply), my box was patiently waiting for me!

Here are the contents of the box:

Bronzer in Montego Bay: When swatched on my hand, it's super shimmery and a little more golden. I was thinking at that point that it was going to be better as maybe an eye colour. But once applied to the face, it's beautiful.

Definer Pen in Black: Felt tip liner pen in a true black. I swatched it, but I wont be using it just yet as I already have several blacks (of various mediums) to use up.

Pencil liner in White: So I've only ever had 1 white pencil and it was shimmery and the colour pay off was not good at all. This is very cream and pigmented. I'm not used to using white liner, so we'll see how much use I get out of it.

Peace pin: Garbage. Honestly, it's a little tacky for me.

Last but not least, a small quartz stone that they include in all boxes. I'm not sure what to do with this. Maybe I'll find a home for it on my desk.

So overall some really nice products. I think I would have liked to see more variety instead of two types of eye liners. Maybe an eyeshadow or lip product would have rounded out the box a bit more. However, I do understand that their theme was Modern Warhol.

Here are some swatches and an everyday look I did using the products (except the specific liner)

Here's a look using the products.

  1. Oh the look is great on you! I've considered Starlooks but am trying to cut back on beauty spending and I think I'd rather pick out my own products :) It's fun they do birthday boxes though, maybe I'll subscribe for October :D
