April Ipsy Bag

I'm a little late on this post - I'm sorry!

I got my April Ipsy bag a few weeks ago and I adore it! At first I wasn't too happy about the colour of nail polish that I received, but after I tried it, that quickly changed!

This month's theme was Pretty In Pink. I'm not a pink person. At all. I was pleased to see that the makeup bag was all white with a only a bright pink strip at the top. The interior was white & pink stripes which I didn't mind at all.

First item up is the blush. This is a full size blush from Be A Bombshell and the colour that I received is Sweet Cheeks. It has a very soft texture and if applied heavily has a beet of an iridescence to it. Blended, it's actually quite nice. Value: $16

While I'm sure that this is a great product, I'm slightly disappointed to have received the Soy Renewal by Sexy Hair. I don't doubt that this is a great product, but I have so many hair oil/treatments. I have 5 including the one I'm working on. This is going to go into a swap or to a friend. Value: Approx $4.39

Next is the Sations nail polish by Miss Professional. The colour I received was Love at First Byte from the Spring 2013 Miss Antoinette Collection. I've received a few polishes from subscription boxes in the past and they've always been from previous collections. The fact that we got a current collection is awesome! Kudos Ipsy & Miss Professional!. I've seen other reviews on this colour and I was not excited about it. Then I tried it, and I actually love it! Even after 3 coats, it's a little sheer which is a bit of a let down, but it truly is a beautiful colour for Spring. Value: $5

Last but not least is a loose shadow by Mica Beauty Cosmetics. It's a very generous sample (2g which is only .5g less than a full size). Got the colour Earth. It looks like a beautiful dusty pink in the container. Value: $11.96

Now there is one thing that somewhat bothers me about these shadows. They are made of pure Mica (and may contain carmine and/or Titanium Dioxide). As their website puts it "MicaBeauty® Mineral Makeup is extremely gentle, free of preservatives, chemicals, dyes, talc, oils, and other fillers." Those "fillers" are what help makeup have their staying power. Because I've played around with making my own shadows, I have a lot of mica. So, to me, this is unfortunately nothing more than what I have in my desk cupboards (PS - If you want me to make you a colour, I'd gladly give it a shot and while my containers are smaller, I also wont charge as much!). Sorry about the mini rant.

So there you have it. I know I only like half the products, but I really like them. Overall it's a good bag.

The total estimated value: $37.35

  1. I'm kinda glad I dropped Ipsy for Starlooks... I think I would have been disappointed in this bag.

    1. I've debated about Starlooks. But right now I don't want only makeup products and trying to save a bit of money by going with the least expensive box. However one really bad bag and no more Beauty Boxes for me!

  2. I got the Mica powder and don't really care for it. I got the other color in the nail polish and I love it! The color you got is very pretty too! Check out my review of the bag: http://rodneyaross.wordpress.com/posts/

  3. I've found that my favourite part about the MICA pigment is dusting it over the sation nail polish! :)

  4. I think ipsy has cheap makeup. The blush was made in china. And I've never heard of the makeup brands they have in their bags. I usually keep the hair/body/skin/nailpolish item in the bag and throw the makeup away. How many eye shadows can someone possibly have. I think birchbox has way better high end brands and more of a variety in their bags. Ipsy is mostly makeup. And I'm not a big makeup person.

    1. Birchbox does look great, however it's US only which is a bummer. And we wont get started on how many eye shadows a person can have :) (Although I will admit that I'm at about that "enough" stage )
