My Holy Grail Eyeliner: Kat Von D Ink Liner in Trooper (Review)

The Holy Grail product. Everyone wants to find their Holy Grail product. For some, it takes years; for others, it can take a few months.

I am proud to say, that after several years, I have found my Holy Grail black liner: Kat Von D's Ink Liner in Trooper.

Holy Grail Kat Von D Ink Liner

Available in 10 colours, the Kat Von D Ink Liner is housed in a pen-like casing with a firm (not stiff) felt tip.The felt tip allows for precision application with maximum colour payoff. After 7 weeks of regular usage, the felt tip is still un-frayed and in perfect condition.

The Ink Liner dries fairly quickly and once dry,has a slight shine to it. It's not glossy, but it's not matte either. I guess you can call it a satin finish.

Kat Von D Ink Liner is also waterproof. Many liners that are marketed as waterproof or smudge-proof have graced these eyes of mine, but they have always transferred higher onto my lids (that's what happens when you have slightly hooded lids) . The Ink Liner has stayed perfectly in place ALL DAY, from 6:30am until about 10pm. That's 15.5 hours. Even under a combination of office, yard work in the heat and finally relaxing, the Ink Liner looks just as perfect as it did upon application.

Dispite the fact that it's waterproof, long lasting and doesn't transfer, it's not a nightmare to remove. Make sure to use an eye makeup remover and a couple swipes across your lashline, and you should have it all. While not necessary, try for one that's for waterproof eye makeup.

The only downfall (if you can call it that), is that the name for the black Ink Liner is the same as the Tattoo Liner: Trooper. So you have to make sure you're grabbing the right one. I also wish there were more colours available, like a nice purple, berry or even yellow. Something a little brighter than hunter green and olive.

Now, I will say it's been years since I've tried the Stila Stay All Day liner so I can't really compare the two, however, based on the Sephora website, KVD Ink Liner is $23 for 0.019oz of product, while the Stila Stay All Day liner is $26 for 0.016oz of product.

Not only do I adore Kat Von D as a person, but she has created my Holy Grail eyeliner. I'm looking forward to hopefully seeing new colours, and I will seriously cry if ever this gets discontinued. Please, someone warn me if you ever hear of this rumour!

  1. Ohhh! Good to know that it doesn't fray! I reviewed the white one and someone asked me that question. I couldn't answer it though because it's not like I wear a white liner every day. I'll send them over here to read your post!

    1. Awesome! Just checked yours out; it's great that the white delivers such great colour pay off as well. I need to get more of these.
