Derma MD: Double Duty Products + Giveaway

Derma MD

Over the past several years, proper skincare has become more important to me. Makeup removal and toning was always a part of the daily routine, but the rest seemed to be annoying things that took too much time. Needless to say, that thinking is wrong.

A proper skincare routine needs to include makeup removal, cleansing, exfoliating (not too often!), toning, a serum, eye cream, moisturizer, sun protection and the occasional mask. That may sound like a lot, but it's really not. The trick? Look for products that do double duty. Here are a few items from Derma MD that do just that.

Derma MD

Derma MD had landed on my doorstep and excitement hit the moment the package was opened. Having not heard of the company prior to being contacted, research was done beforehand:

- They've been around since 2001
- Originally sold exclusively to estheticians and physicians to be used in their practices and provide to their clients
- Work with the most advanced chemist and groundbreaking ingredients for anti-aging/peptides and antioxidants
- Believes in using key ingredients in the highest allowable concentration to deliver results

So, what was in the box?

Derma MD cleanser

Exfoliating Cleanser (Glycolic + Peppermint)

Formulated with glycolic acid and peppermint extract to increase cell turnover and provide a stimulating effect. Glycolic acid (from sugar cane) is one of the more recognized AHA's for exfoliation and improve texture of skin. This pearly silky cleanser has additional anti-aging ingredients to moisturize, tighten and leave skin feeling firm and supple.

This cleanser smells amazing (just like peppermint) and feels great on the skin. It's not harsh or drying on the skin. It also contains green tea extract which is a strong antioxidant. Because this is a chemical exfoliant (as opposed to a physical), it's gentle enough to be used on all skin types. Even though it's gentle, it shouldn't be used more than 2-3 times a week and avoid the eyes. That peppermint burns!

Derma MD Pink Silk

Pink Silk Face Firming Rejuvenator

This anti-inflammatory, antioxidant formula combines caviar and AstaXanthin, one of the world's most powerful antioxidants! It works to slow down the aging process and rejuvenate the skin giving it a more youthful and vibrant appearance. Reduces erythema (redness) and calms the skin, including rosacea skin types. This product makes a beautiful primer for makeup, smoothing the skin and creating the perfect canvas for foundation.

Not going to lie, compared to the cleanser, this has a bit of a weird smell. It's not bad, just takes a little getting used to. One pump is enough for my entire face and neck, so make sure you don't pump too much the first time. When you first touch this serum, it feels very silicon-y (like some makeup primers), and that's because it contains dimethicone (which is often used to help fill and smooth lines and is great for spread-ability). While this is a serum, which is usually applied before a moisturizer, I like to wear this on its own, leaving my skin feeling smooth and hydrated, or under my makeup as a primer. It does actually work for that.

Derma MD Daytime Moisturizer

Daytime Moisturizer SPF 50

A silky daytime moisturizer that will provide 50 times your natural protection from the sun, blocking a very broad spectrum of UVA (aging) and UVB (burning) rays. Formulated in a moisturizing base. Non-comedogenic AND fragrance-free. No stinging or burning.

This really has no scent at all and applies amazingly. Again, you don't need much to cover your face. It's super smooth, very hydrating, not at all greasy, and unlike some facial sun protectants, it blended easily and didn't leave behind any white streaks. I wore this while on the sunny beaches of Negril, Jamaica for an entire week and did not get burned, not even a little colour. For those of you who are swimmers and get your face wet (I'm not one of these people), this is not waterproof or sweat proof. You may want to reapply or look for a sunscreen geared for your activity level.

So there you have it! 3 items from Derma MD that can help speed up your skincare routine.
