Fenty Beauty Highlighters

When it was announced that Rihanna was coming out with a makeup line, Fenty Beauty, the entire world got excited. And it's no wonder; 40 shades of foundation, from light to dark and everything in between, Fenty Beauty offers one of the largest shade ranges.

Oddly enough, it wasn't the foundation that caught my eyes (although I really want to try it). It was the highlighters. 16 of them to be exact.

The Killawatt Freestyle Highlighter comes in four duos, and two singles, all in an octagon compactThe compact itself is white with a little purple and blue shimmer that you can only really see when held at an angle. The compact is also a little tough to open up at first. With time, it may become a little easier to open.

The duos have a soft sheen colour and a "supercharged" shimmer colour. I purchased Girl Next Door & Chic Phreak which are described as a "soft pink sheen and a supercharged peachy pink shimmer". Girl Next Door is a very soft pink that's a little more shimmer than sheen.

While the colour is nice, it's not exactly subtle. Chic Phreak is more of a gorgeous rose gold that definitely has more shimmer than Girl Next Door.  While both colours are gorgeous, I find that there isn't much of a difference between the two when applied with a brush, which is quite disappointing.

The Match Stix Shimmer Skinstick are stick highlighters cased in yet again, octagon packaging. What makes this packaging different, is the fact that they are magnetic. While it might be annoying grabbing a Shimmer Skinstick out of your purse and having loose change attached to it, it's cute when on your vanity.

Unlike the Killawatt Freestyle Highlighters, the Shimmer Skinsticks are a much more subtle highlight, offering more of a sheen than a shimmer. Unicorn is a cool frosted lilac, and Trippin is a gorgeous warm golden apricot.

Trippin, Unicorn
Application was a little disappointing. You'd expect a nice and creamy formula, however it was a little on the dry side (Unicorn a little more than Trippin). When applied directly onto the skin, it actually seemed to have moved my BB cream, Not Cool!

So far, the best way I've found to blend these without disrupting your makeup too much, is unfortunately with your fingers. It's too dry to get on a brush first. Someone mentioned a silicon blending sponge, but I'm not too sure about that.

Both of Fenty Beauty's highlighter formulas have their pros and cons, however there's no denying that the colours are gorgeous. I may pick up another Killawatt.

  1. I just got one of the Killawatt highlighters but I haven't tried it out yet! I love the shade name "Chic Phreak," and honestly all of the shade/product names in the whole collection are so witty and cute.

  2. I was a little confused about this Fenty Beauty highlighter! I did my course last month from Lina Cameron, Who trains makeup lessons for beginners , I asked her about this highlighter and Lina is so kind, she let me swatch from her one and also she did my makeover to clear my confusing using this highlighter. I am so glad that I did my course under her and got her guideline! <3
