wet n wild 2016 release & preview

When people hear the words makeup, budget-friendly and drugstore in one sentence, most cringe their face and turn the other cheek. Let's be honest, some of them don't live up to our standards, but these days, drugstore makeup is making a huge comeback!

wet n wild is one of those budget-friendly drugstore brands that's doing just that. They've recently showcased their new 2016 line (which is slowly making it on the shelves as you read this), to press and bloggers, and it does not disappoint. I will say that most of these appear to be from the Fergie collection (which Canada never received), but the names have been changed and hey no longer bare the name Fergie.

The 10-Pan Studio Eyeshadow Palettes come in two colours, Coming in Latte and QuartzCenter. A combination of matte, translucent and shimmery/glittery colours come together to offer you endless possibilities. The satin-smooth formula is nylon-treated and jet milled for what is said to be an ultra-pigmented and crease-resistant colour that lasts all day.

Having oily eyelids means that no eyeshadow is crease resistant on me, so that has not been tested. These colours work well together and blend nicely with little effort. The palette is sleek enough to keep in your purse and comes with a double ended eyeshadow brush, making it easy to bring any look from day to night.

To keep my eyeshadow in place all day long, I use a eyeshadow primer. My holy grail has been the UD Primer Potion, then I was introduced to the wet n wild Fergie eyeshadow primer that I loved, but could not find in Canada, and now, wet n wild has brought me the photofocus Eyeshadow Primer; my new holy grail.

Designed to lock your eyeshadow in place, the photofocus Eyeshadow Primer preps your eyelids with it's smooth formula to help brighten eyelids and dries clear so that it doesn't alter the colour of your eyeshadow. Retailing for approx $4.99,  it's a steal of a deal and actually works just as good as UD!

A little liner goes a long way to transform any eye.Whether you want rock-star inspired smudged eye or a crisp and clean cat eye, wet n wild has you covered with 4 new eyeliners.

The On Edge Crème Eyeliner is a smooth, waterproof cream eyeliner that packs a punch. The formula doesn't crease or transfer (my biggest problem) and lasts all day without moving a millimeter! The eyeliner comes with a brush that is best used for smudgier type liner, but you can easily use your own brush to create a nice clean line. Currently only available in Black.

Prefer a more defined look and a liquid formula? The MegaLiner Liquid Liner is for you. The applicator is a thin, flexible felt tip that you have to dip into the inkwell to add more eyeliner to it. While it I did have to dip back in several times to complete my wings, the formula dried quickly (but not too quick) and stayed all day. Available in 4 colours for approx. $5.49. Also available in a waterproof formula (2 colours only)

Also coming out is the Proline Felt Tip Eyeliner and Proline Graphic Marker Eyeliner.  Both are felt tip pens with the inkwell built in so you don't have to continuously go back and forth between your eye and a stand-alone inkwell. The Felt Tip Eyeliner's tip is a little thicker than the liquid eyeliner and not quite as flexible, but offers more control over your brush. The Graphic Marker Eyeliner on the other hand, has a much thicker, angled felt tip for creating a more graphic look. Available in 2 colours each for approx $6.99.

No eye is complete without a little mascara. The Max Fanatic Cat Eye Mascara offers a unique brush to help elongate those outer lashes for a more cat-eye look. This mascara delivers some volume, curl and a little length as well. While it takes a little getting used to the brush, the end result is purr-fect!

Another mascara hitting the shelves is the Turn Up The Volume Mascara. This mascara is for those that want major volume! The brush coats and seals each lash from root to tip with an ultra thick formula that adds major fullness. This mascara contains Vitamin B5, Jojoba Oil and Argan Oil to help strenghten, protect and nourish your lashes. It also contains Beeswax and Rice Bran Wax to create a more buildable formula so you can amp up the volume as much as you want!

Looking to add even more drama to your lashes? use wet n wild's Photofocus Lash Primer to prime your lashes to make them look thicker before you apply mascara.

It seems like every company is coming out with some sort of contour kit and wet n wild is no exception. Available in two sets of colours, Dulce De Leche and Caramel Toffee, these duos bring us a light colour to help highlight our best features while the darker shade help create that sculpted look that everyone's trying to achieve.

Even with all that sculpting, we want to add a glow to our skin to further enhance our features. The MegaGlo Illuminating Palette has four colours that can be used separately or blended together to bring you that beautiful glow from within. Use it on your cheek bones or on your decolletage for a subtle illuminating effect.

There are 5 new wet n wild Color Icon blushes and they now have a new formula. While I'm not familiar with the old formula, this one is silky smooth and blends well. From bright pink to a more neutral rosé, these colours are perfect, regardless the time of year. Only 3 of the 5 blushes are shown.

The wet n wild To Reflect Shimmer Palettes are great if you want a little more shimmer than a "from-within glow". Sand-Gria Castles is a bronze colour, great for accentuating a summer tan or faking that beach look. I'll Have A Cosmo on the other hand is the perfect colour for those of us who are a little paler but still want that healthy-looking shimmer.

To apply all this fabulous makeup, are their new Cruelty-Free Makeup Brushes. A total of 17 white and pink brushes that are ergonomically designed and PETA certified and vegan. Animal hair (natural hair) is considered to be the best because it has imperfections. Little breaks in the hair create friction against the item you're trying to pick up, which better allows you to pick it up.

wet n wild has found a way to mimic these imperfections and designed these brushes using a thermoplastic polymer complex.  These brushes are super soft and get the job done.

Lock it all in place with the wet n wild PhotoFocus Setting Spray. The final touch to any makeup look, the PhotoFocus Setting Spray keeps your makeup (powder, cream or liquid)  from melting, creasing, fading, smudging or cracking. It also contains aloe to help hydrate your skin. Going to a festival? Make sure to use this to keep your makeup lasting all day. Going out after work? Keep this in your purse and spritz on before leaving the office for revive makeup for that freshly-applied look.

Megaslicks Lip Glosses are infused with Vitamins A & E and Aloe Vera to help condition and moisturize your lips. Available in a variety of  finishes from opaque, to shimmer, to a tint of colour, the Megaslicks Lip Glosses can be worn alone or on top of your lipstick to boost shine. These have a sweet, fruity/vanilla type smell to them, are ultra-glossy and are not sticky at all.

If you're looking for something a little more matte, wet n wild brings you their Velvet Matte Lip Color. These are in pencil form (my favourite) which make for super easy application. These are satin smooth and doesn't even feel like you're wearing anything on your lips. Instead of settling into the lines of your lips, I find that these seem to just slowly fade away While it delivers a little bit of moisture, it's not like a lipstick, but it doesn't dry out like most matte lip colors either. Just try not to drop them. I think one of mine took a bit of a beating and broke. At least now we know just how much product is in it!

No release is ever complete with some new polish. The hottest nail polish trend this year is the at-home gel nails without the need of a UV lamp. The wet n wild 1 Step Wonder Gel is available in 18 beautiful colours that range from bright coral to neutral pinks to vampy reds. If you've missed it, a full review of the 1 Step Wonder Gel can be found here
